CNC machining is the most common and best method for prototype and batch production of metal and plastic parts. What are the main technical processes of CNC processing?

CNC MACHINE

CNC turning

Just clamp the workpiece on the rotary table or spindle, and when the workpiece rotates, the tool stops in the fixture installed on the moving slider. The slider can move the length of the workpiece up and down or close to or away from the centerline. The drill bit installed on the tailstock can form a precise hole below the centerline of the workpiece.

Turning is an ideal choice for the rapid removal of large amounts of material. The lathe is used to make concentric shapes on the outer circumference of circular parts. Grooves, annular grooves, step shoulders, internal and external threads, cylinders, and shafts - many circular or circular features are machined on a lathe. They also produce a smooth and uniform surface finish.

CNC machining

The difference between milling and turning is that the workpiece remains stationary and the tool rotates on the spindle. The workpiece is usually placed horizontally on the workbench of the machine tool and installed on the workbench moving along the X and Y directions. The spindle is equipped with various tools, which can move on the X, y, and Z axes.

Although milling machines can also drill and drill, they are good at removing materials from more complex and asymmetric components. Milling cutters are used to make squares/planes, notches, chamfers, channels, contours, keyways, and other features depending on the precise cutting angle. Milling and turning are jointly responsible for the operation of most CNC machines. Like all metalworking operations, cutting fluid is used to cool workpieces and tools, lubricate and wash away metal particles or debris.

CNC grinding

Surface grinding: making a very flat surface on metal parts is very important for many applications. Grinding is to install the workpiece on the workbench and move it back and forth on the slider under the grinding wheel, or sometimes keep it firm when the grinding wheel moves. Note that this process can only be used on surfaces that do not have any protrusions protruding from the surface.

Different materials use different types of abrasives. The thermal and mechanical stresses during grinding will adversely affect the workpiece, so the tool speed and temperature must be carefully controlled.

Cylindrical grinding: the workpiece usually remains stationary, while the circular or cylindrical grinding wheel rotates relative to its surface. Cylindrical grinding machines can be used for inside and outside diameters, both over the entire length of the part and at some depth. It produces very precise tolerances and very smooth surface textures.

Optical grinding: the front is all metal processing, but CNC processing is also used to make special optical elements of glass or plastic. Optical elements require very precise surfaces and strict tolerances, so special grinding equipment can be used. The shaft rotates while rotating the grinding wheel onto a surface that has an average of any nominal deviation. Grinding paste is also used as a lubricant and forms a finished surface.
